Grassland Community Trail
Introduction
Essentials for Success and Safety
The Grassland Community Trail winds through a beautiful and scenic area, but certain elements should be considered.
- Although groups can hike either up from Westsyde or down from the McQueen Day-Centre, participants should be aware that a certain level of fitness and preparation is required.
- Most groups would do best to hike down from the day-centre, to avoid fatigue related problems on the steep sections around McQueen Creek and Deep Lake.
- Ensure that you know your route and have adequate leadership and planning to deal with contingencies.
- Cell phones should work for the majority of the route (except between day-centre and McQueen Creek in upper section).
- There is a good population of bears in the transition zone between the douglas fir and the grassland zone.
